Holiday Crafts on a Budget!

Happy December and welcome back from Thanksgiving break! With finals coming up, take a break and decorate your dorm, apartment, or house and get into the festive spirit! I’m going to give you a few easy and cheap festive crafts so you don’t have to buy expensive decorations. Some of these could even be used as inexpensive gifts for family or friends!

1. Find an old window or picture frame with the glass still in it. Get some paint and find a scenery that you think you could paint well and will look nice, and paint it on the glass! Or find a piece of wood to paint a scenery on! My mom and grandma love doing this for outside decor, or decor on top of the fireplace.

2. If you have a plain white, ceramic mug, get some sharpies and draw or write something festive on it! If you want to do multiple drawings, wash and scrub the mug a few times and the sharpie should come off! If you want the drawing to be permanent, find some special paint or markers that allow the picture to stay on!

3. For all of you coffee lovers out there, try making your own holiday coffee blend. Buy some spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves to spice up your coffee! This could be a perfect gift along with your custom made mug!

4. A classic holiday craft is making your own ornaments. I know making ornaments as a kid in class was always a go-to so put your skills to the test! Ornaments at the store can get a little pricey, so this is especially helpful if you’re in college or have a tight budget. Plus it makes your tree one of a kind!

I hope you try some of these crafts and if you do, tag It Make$ Cents on Instagram! Also be sure to come to our Holiday Crafts on a Budget event on December 5th, from 6-8 in the Cameron Hall of Nations in Centennial!

Have fun crafting!
