One thing that is difficult as a college student is keeping entertained without breaking the bank. There can be a lot of social pressure to go out to eat and drink every weekend with friends, but that adds up quickly. I have compiled a list of a few different fun activities and the more cost-efficient ways to enjoy them.
Movies/TV/Theater:
-Marcus Cinema has $5 movie nights on Tuesdays
-The Rivoli has amazing student deals:
-$2 Tuesdays with a small free popcorn
-$3 Thursdays for all student and faculty with free small popcorn
-$3.75 for all matinee showings of movies (showing before 4pm)
-Take advantage of the Campus movie theater
-See if you can share Netflix, Hulu, or Disney + account with friends or family (or get the cheaper versions with ads)
-Weber Center for the Arts has both student ($20) and military ($10) discounts for tickets
-UWL has an $8 student price for theatre arts
Social Outings/Food:
-Eat homecooked/campus food (and drinks) before you go out on weekends
-Check out local food and drink specials (we have a blog post about that! https://itmakescents.wixsite.com/itmakescentsuwl/post/la-crosse-student-deals )
-Get carry out instead of delivery (delivery fees add up fast!)
-Grandad Bluff, Shrine of Our Lady Guadalupe, Riverside International Friendship Gardens (great spot for mini photo shoots!)
-Riverside Park, Hixon Forrest Park, Myrick Park, Pettibone Park
Video Games/Other Media:
-Campus library or La Crosse Public Library for a good book or movie (that you don’t have to pay for)
-Wait for the lunar new year, golden week, spring, summer, Halloween, autumn, and winter steam sales to buy the pc games you want at very reduced prices
-Buy console games at Gaming Generations or GameStop
A Couple other Tips:
-Use the city bus to get to these outings, we get free rides with our student ID cards
-Check out what events are on campus
