Being a broke college student, like most of you, I know there is nothing better than making delicious meals for inexpensive prices so today I am going to go over how to buy a week’s worth of groceries for $25ish depending on your meal choices. I will also give you some ideas of what to do with these items for meals.
Inexpensive breakfast foods
1. Eggs- the most basic “inexpensive” meal you can get a dozen eggs for around $1 at Kwik trip, Aldi, and Festival. This honestly should get you through at least 4 breakfasts. So, if you get 2 dozen eggs that will easily last you a week for $2
2. Cereal-you can look to buy a box of cereal for around $3 with a 2-gallon jug of milk to compliment it this breakfast food would cost you around $5 for the week.
3. Oatmeal- This is a very filling food that you can pare with some fruit to give you a delicious and health breakfast for $3 for a 10 pack of oatmeal and $3 for some fruit giving you $6 total for this breakfast selection.
4. Toast- you can buy a loaf of bread for around $1 at Aldi and Walmart to $1.50 at Festival which you can put avocados ($1.50 per) on, peanut butter ($2 per tub), bananas(.40 per lb.), and jelly($2.50ish) to make or add to any of the other breakfasts located above.
Most Expensive Choice-$6
Inexpensive Lunch/Dinners
1. Salads-you can buy bags of garden salads for around $1 so I recommend getting 2 for the week to have enough for around 3 salads. Total-$2 Plus dressing ($2 at Walmart and Aldi $3.50 at Festival) =$4 total
2. Pasta- a box of noodles can cost between $1 at Woodman’s, Aldi, and $1.50 at Festival and Walmart. Adding to this is tomato sauce which is between $1 & $2.
3. Chicken-you can get 2 packs of chicken for a little over $10. With this amount of chicken, you should be able to make a week’s worth of different lunches and dinners. Chicken is also a very diverse food that can be thrown in to a bunch of different items. You can put it in your salad above with some dressing, you can make burrito bowls (which is what I love to do with rice, lettuce, beans, cheese, and jalapenos), you can make wraps ($2 extra for the wraps), chicken sandwiches (bread price located above), stir fry’s (a frozen veggie stir fry pack is around $2.50 & stir fry sauce is around $3), or add it to pasta (price also located above)
Most Expensive is Chicken Stir Fry=$15
Total most expensive meal cost=$21+extras
