Happy Halloween! With the holiday quickly approaching this weekend, I thought I would share easy Halloween costumes you can do that wont break the bank! These costumes are things you already have in your closet and will not cost you much to complete.
A place you can go to buy items for a fun Halloween costume that will not cost you a lot of money is Goodwill or any other local thrift shop. Not only are you saving money, but you are also finding unique pieces, supporting your local community, and promoting sustainable second hand shopping.
Here are 10 easy last-minute, low-cost Halloween costumes:
1. Black Cat: Wear any black shirt and pants you have in your closet, and some black eyeliner to draw on a nose and whiskers. Either buy or make some simple cat ears!
2. Ghost: self-explanatory but take an old bed sheet or cheap one from the dollar store, cut some holes for eyes, and you are good to go!
3. Lumberjack: Wear a flannel you already have in your closet, and pair it with jeans or kakis, and a beanie. Bonus points if you have a fake hatchet and fake beard!
4. Cowboy/Cowgirl: Use a flannel you already have in your closet, your favorite jeans, some cowboy boots, and a hat for this costume.
5. Rosie the Riveter: For this costume you need a blue button-down shirt, a red headband, and some red lipstick.
6. Tacky Tourist: this costume can be also tweaked to be Hawaiian or beach theme as well. You need a floral print shirt, some cargo shorts, a camera, fanny pack, and sunscreen bottle for the full look!
7. Identity thief: Buy a pack of Hello name tags, write some random names, and stick them all over your shirt for this costume, You can wear any comfortable and casual clothes for this one.
8. Skeleton: this one may take some makeup skills, but all you need is some white and black face paint to pain on a skeleton. Wear black or white clothes you have in your closet already for this costume.
9. Devil/Angel: this is a good partner costume, all you need to make or buy is devil and angel headbands and wear red and white clothes you already have in your closet. You can buy or make wings, and a devil tail as well.
10. When life gives you lemons: Take a white shirt you already have and write the word “life” on the shirt, or on a name tag/sticker. Then, buy a lemon from the grocery store and pretend to “hand out” the lemon all night. A cheap costume for a well-known phrase!
Being who you want for Halloween does not have to break the bank. Even if you do not use these costumes provided, planning out who you want to be and shopping around to find the cheapest items never hurts. Be safe and have fun! Happy Halloween!
